Legal Requirements – Documents Needed
UK law requires registered number plate suppliers to verify customer details before manufacturing plates. To comply with DVLA regulations, we must receive valid copies of the following documents.
1. Proof of Identity
Documents confirming name and address:
Driving licence
Utility bill, Council Tax bill, or rates bill (issued within the last 6 months)
Bank or building society statement (issued within the last 6 months)
National identity card
Documents confirming name only:
Passport (UK or non-UK)
Bank or building society debit or credit card
Police warrant card
Armed forces identity card
2. Proof of Entitlement to the Registration Number
One of the following is required:
Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
Green “new keeper” slip from the V5C or V5CNI
Certificate of Entitlement (V750 or V750NI)
Retention document (V778)
Vehicle tax or SORN renewal reminder (V11 or V11NI)
Temporary Registration Certificate (V379 or V379NI)
Number Plate Authorisation Certificate (V948) with DVLA official stamp
Electronic Number Plate Authorisation Certificate (eV948 or eV948/2)
Letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire companies), quoting the registration certificate document reference number
For fleets using the V5C on Demand / V5C Suppression scheme: a PDF of the vehicle details from the DVLA View Vehicle Record service
UK Trailer Registration Certificate (VTRC)
